Erins Own u10 hurling team were invited to take part in the Annual St Mary’s Hurling Club u10 Hurling blitz in Clonmel last Saturday 24/8/13.The blitz involved 16 clubs from counties Tipperary,Cork,Limerick,Galway,Clare,Kilkenny,Waterford,Dublin & Offaly & Wexford.
In the first of our three group matches against Buffers Alley (Wexford) we were slow to get off the mark and despite a good second half comeback we lost out by three goals. Our second match against Drom & Inch (Tipperary) was a very close contest and in the end we had to settle for a draw (Erins Own 1-04 Drom & Inch 2-01). In the final group match we had a great win against St Marys (Clonmel) on a scoreline of Erins Own 5-03 St Mary’s 1-01.
As a consequence of these results we qualified for the semi-final of the Jimmy Collins Shield and once again played the host club. After a poor start we trailed by 8pts at half time. However a fantastic second half performance showed the true spirit of this Erins Own team when we scored 4-03 in the second half to win by 2 pts and qualify for the final against Cahir (Tipperary)
We settled very well early in the final against Cahir and led throughout the match to win the Jimmy Collins Shield which was presented afterwards to our team captain on the day Sean Power.
