Senior Hurling Championship Semi-Final Erins Own 2-13 Midleton 1-18, 25/09/2016
This year’s semi-final of the Senior hurling championship against Midleton saw Erins Own play some of their best hurling of the year, from the off both sides were clearly up for this one Eoghan Murphy opened the scoring with a free from outside the 21, Robbie O Flynn was lively at wing forward in catching 3 puck outs in row & scoring two points, Jack Sheehan was hurling well at corner back as was Shane Murphy at centre back, Midleton were also showing their strength with Luke O Farrell always looking dangerous & Paul Haughney was playing well at midfield, Kieran Murphy hit a fine point & Eoghan put over 3 more points from frees to leave the sides level at the break at 7 points apiece, the second half turned this game in to a heart stopper with both sides upping the tempo, all Erins Own backs were showing how good they really are by tightening up & playing some fine hurling, Andrew Power fired over the first of the second half & Robbie adding another, Kieran Murphy was now hurling well when he goaled mid ways in the second half, Eoghan Murphy hit two more points one from play the other from a 65, a great call from the Erins Own line with a double substitution in Mark Collins & Cian O Callaghan who proved to be the difference with Cian finding the net in the 28th minute & Mark scoring 2 points one of them the best point of the afternoon from away out on the wing, but Midleton were still very much in this game & were looking to level things up when they went for a goal from a Conor Lehane 21yard free but Shay Bowen made a fine save & deflected it over the bar, but time ran out for the magpies & it was to be Erins Own’s day in well-deserved victory, there was plenty played well on the day for Erins Own Shane Murphy, Robbie O Flynn & Kieran Murphy are only 3 of 9 or 10 you could mention, but the man of the match would have to go to Jack Sheehan who put in a fine shift for the hour, It’s been 9 years since Erins Own reached the county final so there will be plenty of excitement around the parish were they meet Glen rovers who are chasing back to back titles which was last done by Erins Own in 2006 & 2007
