The coaching scheme started in the schools in January 2009. Niall McIntyre, the Schools’ Coach, each week coaches hurling or football in the four schools of the Parish; Knockraha NS on Mondays, Glounthaune NS on Tuesdays and Wednesday mornings, Brooklodge NS on Wednesday afternoons and Thursday, and then Little Island NS on Fridays.
While the scheme is primarily aimed at the children of first, second, third and fourth class, each child at some point in the school year will receive the coaching scheme.
Each day starts at 9pm and five coaching sessions of almost an hour are carried out in the school day with each particular class being allotted their specific time each week so that the children get used to having their ‘Coaching Scheme’ time each week or as some would call it ‘Niall time’!
The Coaching Scheme really has been a great success since its inception and it has developed into being about more than just the day-to-day coaching in the schools. In addition the coaching scheme is known for having an Easter camp, one day clinics, school blitzes, inter school tournaments, after school athletics training, and additional coaching activities as is often required.
In this section of the website you will find all the newsletters published since the start of the scheme, photos from the 2013 Easter Camp (more to be uploaded from previous camps soon), and we will continue to keep this section updated with current news.
