Erins Own 3-13 Glen Rovers 2-15
Erin’s Own took on Glen Rovers on Sunday morning in Caherlag in the Red FM Senior Hurling League, a repeat of the 2016 Cork County Senior Hurling Final. It was the club’s first meeting since that final.
In a feisty game, Erin’s Own won out by the narrowest of margins. With inter county players returning for both sides, the game had an extra edge.
Glen Rovers began the game strongly with Patrick Horgan highly influential in the first half. Erin’s Own came back into the game strongly with two goals from Cork hurler, Robbie O Flynn, in the second quarter of the game. Glen Rovers did not let up and went in leading at half time by two points.
Sean Kelly was introduced at half time and produced a fine goal that gave Erin’s Own the lead early in the second half. The game was back and forth for the entire second half. Patrick Horgan uncharacteristically missed the target with a penalty for the visitors which proved to be a big moment in the game. The game was settled with the last play when Maurice O Carroll made a strong run through the Glen’s defence where he was fouled straight in front of the goal. Eoghan Murphy pointed the 20 metre free and the referee sounded his whistle.
Cathal O Mahoney, Robbie O Flynn, Kieran Murphy and Maurice O Carroll produced strong performances for Erin’s Own, while Patrick Horgan and Dean Brosnan were influential throughout for Glen Rovers.
