Members Update – Easter 2026
Our last update to you was our Christmas message. At that time, our teams had returned to pre-season training and the Management Committee was preparing for 2026. All of our teams are now back in action, involved in leagues and practice games in preparation for the Championship.
LGFA & Camogie Update
- Aimee Corcoran and the Cork Senior LGFA team play Galway in the Division 1 League Final on Saturday, April 11th at 5pm in the Gaelic Grounds, Limerick.
- Gemma Claasen and the Cork Minor Camogie team play Kilkenny in an All-Ireland Semi-Final, also on Saturday, April 11th (fixture to be confirmed).
- All teams from U16 to Junior completed a 6-week S&C training block with Ger Geary. Following on from last year, this provides a solid base for the year. Thanks to Ger, and well done to all the girls.
- There was a fantastic effort put in for the recent Gear Swap initiative run by Ann Redmond. Over €400 was also collected for charity.
- We would like to give a special welcome to the new U5 girls who recently started with us in the club, playing football and camogie. It is great to see all teams back on the field, training and playing matches.
- Any girls looking to join or return, please contact Catherine (086 257 7972) or Niamh (086 331 2520). Girls of all ages are welcome!
- The new jerseys have arrived! We will soon be launching our new jerseys and our new sponsor, Mickio’s. We are extremely grateful to Cian and Mickio, and also to Michelle, who created a brilliant design.
- Best of luck to the Féile team playing on Easter Monday — a huge occasion for all involved.
GAA
After intensive pre-season training, the Senior, Intermediate, Junior and Minor hurlers have commenced their league programmes. We are delighted to report that our Senior hurlers have started with two impressive victories. We look forward to the Championship.
The Junior football team has won three of their four league games.
The Juvenile Club has been very active, both on and off the field. In preparation for the Open Day on 14.02.26, a leaflet drop was organised to housing estates in the parish and was also circulated online. On Saturday, 14.02.2026, almost 100 boys and girls aged 5 began their Rogha Éireann journey. It was wonderful to see the children and parents arriving in Caherlag.
If you have any friends with children aged 5 who have not received the message, be sure to let them know that a Céad Míle Fáilte awaits them in Caherlag (Eircode: T45 N226).
Training for children aged 5–12 takes place every Saturday morning. It is a great experience for both children and parents. See you there — and enjoy a coffee from our coffee shop while you’re at it!
Management Committee
The committee has been busy planning for 2026. The sub-committees that help the club sustain its activities include Lotto, Rebels’ Bounty, and Golf. The club is fortunate to have volunteers who run these sub-committees. Without the income from these fundraising activities, the club could not function.
Two new sub-committees were launched this spring:
- Ger Dineen has been appointed Chairman of I’m a Celebrity – Get Me Out of Here! This event will take place in Silver Springs in October. Funds from the event will support our capital projects. If you would like to compete and enter the jungle, contact Ger!
- Cairde Rogha Éireann was launched in February in the Radisson Hotel. A large attendance received a presentation from the Cairde Chairman, Dave McNamara. Cairde will support fundraising projects associated with our Five-Year Plan.
Five-Year Plan / Capital Projects
Cairde Rogha Éireann is working in partnership with the Management Committee to identify sources of funding for capital projects that form part of the Five-Year Plan. In addition to I’m a Celebrity, we will shortly be bringing you news of further funding initiatives.
The goal is to raise €2.4 million. Preliminary discussions have taken place with our bank and with government-appointed agencies charged with funding voluntary organisations.
The capital projects to be completed in 2026 include:
- Reroofing of the club Áras
- A new kitchen in the Áras
- Installation of a new floodlighting system on the top pitch
- Installation of an irrigation system on the top pitch
These projects will be funded by the club, sponsorship, and grants.
Your support for fundraising initiatives is vital to the success of the Five-Year Plan. Further projects that will hopefully follow shortly include the development of playing pitches and a community walkway at Páirc Uí Chonaill.
An Focal Scoir
Happy Easter to all our members, supporters, and sponsors. If you have some free time over the Easter holidays, do come to Caherlag and enjoy our facilities, which are always perfectly maintained by Timmy and Brendan Lambe. Have a casual puck around with your camán and sliotar — there’s no better way to pass the time.
Best wishes to our players representing Cork:
- Robbie Flynn (Senior Hurling)
- Finn O’Brien (U20 Hurling)
- Dara Súilleabháin (Minor Football)
- David Nolan (Minor Hurling)
